Insights into Sports- Values, Trends and Controversies

An insightful piece on social trends that impact level of sports participation in Singapore.
You might not look at PE lessons and related policies the same way again.

On a different note, the values that drive sports and the forces that undermine them...why the effort put into defending them?

Questions on Sports in Paper 1 are few and far between as they are considered niche topics. The danger lies in listing advantages and disadvantages only without full knowledge of ethical aspects to this topic.
  1. Does sport always contribute to international harmony and understanding? (1993)
  2. ‘Sports which contain the risk of serious physical injury or death should be banned.’ How far do you agree with this view?
  3. ‘What is important is not winning, but taking part.’ How realistic is this attitude in the world of sport today?
  4. Is sport too closely linked to money these days?
  5. ‘Hosting major sporting events creates more problems than benefits’. Do you agree?
  6. ‘Gambling on sport undermines its spirit and should be banned.’ How realistic is this position?
No harm knowing a little more just to have some ground covered (Paper2) and  always in light of celebrating the intrinsic value in appreciating sound arguments and informed opinions.
